The Empowerment Council’s voice has changed the creation of the law by presenting to federal legislative committees. The EC has influenced the interpretation of the law by intervening in cases before the Supreme Court of Canada and explaining the broader impact of the law beyond the particular case. And the EC has written recommendations to save lives that were adopted by inquest juries, and made to hospitals, governments and police services.
